Hoàng Anh Tuấn là chuyên gia hàng đầu về cá nước ngọt, dành trọn cuộc đời mình để nghiên cứu và bảo tồn đa dạng sinh học thủy sinh phong phú của Việt Nam. Anh tốt nghiệp Cử nhân Công nghệ sinh học tại Trường Đại học Lâm nghiệp và Thạc sĩ Sinh học tại Viện Sinh thái và Tài nguyên sinh vật, Viện Hàn lâm Khoa học và Công nghệ Việt Nam (VAST), với luận văn tập trung vào quần thể cá và bảo tồn nguồn lợi thủy sản tại tỉnh Quảng Ngãi.
Từ năm 2009, Tuấn đã đảm nhiệm nhiều vai trò quan trọng trong các tổ chức nghiên cứu và bảo tồn trên khắp Việt Nam. Giai đoạn đầu sự nghiệp, anh quản lý bộ sưu tập cá tại Bảo tàng Thiên nhiên Việt Nam và làm việc tại Phòng Động vật, Viện Sinh thái học Miền Nam.
Năm 2023, Tuấn được bổ nhiệm làm Phó Giám đốc CTNC, nơi anh phụ trách nghiên cứu về cá nước ngọt, điều phối các hoạt động thực địa và dẫn dắt chiến lược, dự án bảo tồn. Dưới sự lãnh đạo của anh, CTNC đã triển khai nhiều sáng kiến, bao gồm bảo tồn đa dạng sinh học tại các Khu bảo tồn thiên nhiên Vĩnh Cửu và Pù Hoạt, nghiên cứu về hệ động vật thủy sinh trong các hang động đá vôi, cũng như hợp tác nghiên cứu về phân loại và đa dạng cá.
Công việc của Tuấn nhận được sự hỗ trợ từ nhiều tổ chức quốc gia và quốc tế như Quỹ Nagao, Quỹ NAFOSTED và Bộ Khoa học và Công nghệ. Anh đã hợp tác với các nhà nghiên cứu và tổ chức hàng đầu thế giới, bao gồm Bảo tàng Kyoto, Đại học Sư phạm Nam Trung Quốc và tạp chí Aqua International Journal of Ichthyology, nhằm nâng cao hiểu biết khoa học về hệ sinh thái nước ngọt của Việt Nam.
Là một người ủng hộ mạnh mẽ cho công tác bảo tồn thủy sinh, Tuấn cam kết bảo vệ đa dạng sinh học nước ngọt độc đáo của Việt Nam và đảm bảo quản lý bền vững nguồn tài nguyên này cho các thế hệ tương lai.
